Feb. 25 - Mar. 3

Suppose you had a black box of your life. What would it contain? Well, I hope there will never be a black box of my life because it would be kind of boring, okay who am I kidding it would be really boring. If there was it would contain that I was born in Provo, Utah and I weighed six pounds and twelve ounces. It would say that I am the tenth child born in my family with one sister and eight brothers. I grew up in Green River and attended Book Cliff elementary and I am now attending Green River high school. I love spending time with my family and friends and I also love playing and watching sports. I played Volleyball and Basketball all four years in high school and track two years so far. I was a good student for the most part or at least tried to be. I not only got good grade I also was well behaved in school. I have a good sense of humor and liked to tease others. As I said before I hope there will never be a black box about my life because as you can see it’s not very interesting.

What is your favorite quote? Why and how has it affected your life? When asked these two questions two quotes came to mind one on a serious matter by Gordon Hinckley. "Generally speaking, the most miserable people I know are those who are obsessed with themselves; the happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others...By and large, I have come to see that if we complain about life, it is because we are thinking only of ourselves." You can see how that quote can affect anyone’s life.  Observing people one can see the truth to this quote, people who are happy seem to be more worried about others more than themselves. People who are unhappy are always complaining and thinking of themselves. I am happiest when I am not worried about myself.  Speaking of thinking that leads me to the other quote I thought of by Thomas Monson. "Thinking is the hardest work anyone can do, which is probably the reason why we have so few thinkers." Which is the reason why doing this assignment is so hard since I am one of those stinking at thinking. Being a great mind you can come up with great quotes but so far I don’t know of anyone quoting me.

What do we need to do to encourage less fast foods and more fruits and vegetables? I believe if you grow up eating fruits and vegetables in your home and only eat out once in a while you will like to eat fruits and vegetables more than going out to eat. Have fruit trees in your yard or grow a garden couldn't hurt but if you don't have either of those you could just buy fruits and vegetables to have in your house. If you don't eat fruits and vegetables while you are young you’re not going to eat them when you grow up so its important to have healthy food in the house for your kids. Also to encourage healthier foods fast food places could start having fruits and vegetables as one of their options. Advertising could also help encourage healthier food choice. Commercials could target children to make fruits and vegetables more attractive so they will want to eat them. And finally education can have fruits and vegetables for an option for breakfast and lunch. Education could also help students learn the importance of fruits and vegetables and teach them at a young age the importance of eating healthy.

Feb. 4-10

Do you think rehabilitation of criminals works, or do you think punishments the way to go? Would a combination of both work? I am sad to say that neither of them seem to really work.  If one of them worked then we would not have so many people committing crimes in the first place or committing the same crimes over and over again. Guessing from what I can see a combination of both is probably best.  From what I see in school when some kids break rules the punishment seems to work and keeps them from doing it again but often they just become sneakier and still break the same rules.  Rehabilitation is kind of like teaching someone what they are doing wrong and helping them make changes so they don't continue doing it.  For some people this works but that is a lot of expense and work if they don't change and many don't seem to change.  It is impossible to make someone change who doesn't really want to change. Of course punishment involving prison costs a lot also.  The best we can do is try everything to make them change or feel the punishment is not worth the risk.  It does seem that rehabilitation makes it so some people don't fear punishment and then can fool those doing rehabilitation so they can get out of the punishment.  In the end if it doesn't work and they still make the world unsafe all we can do is keep them locked up in prison.

Which superpower would be most useful to have as president of the United States to fix a struggling country? I think that the best superpower a president could have is time travel. If the president had the power to go back and forth in time he or she could try new things and see what works and what doesn't work. He or she could make a decision travel forward in time to see if it was a good decision and if not travel back in time and make a different decision. That way the president could keep traveling back and forward in time until he found out what was best for our country.  Also if something bad happened he could go back in time and try to take actions that would prevent it from happening. A few bad things about time travel is if we have a arrogant or over confident president they probably would not take advantage of their time travel super power and would insist they know what they are doing.  There is also the possibility they would never get things right and maybe they would be stuck the same president like in Ground Hogs Day.
